Wink vs. SmartThings Gen 3 — What’s Different?
Support – The support community for SmartThings Gen 3 is far more responsive and informative than from Wink.
Since the community surrounding the smart home hub is impressive and has more valuable info that can help you out.
Connectivity – While both smart hubs feature an Ethernet and power ports, SmartThings has a bit of an edge with the addition of support for USB connections as well.
While SmartThings v2 also had the USB feature, we hope that with the newer Gen 3 model we can actually take advantage of the benefits that a USB port has to offer.
Worldwide Usage – Wink can also be used worldwide, which is a huge advantage, especially since SmartThings Gen 3 can only be used in the United States & and perhaps in Canada with a VPN.
Maximum Number of Devices – SmartThings has an edge over the number of devices supported, which is unlimited. And is far more impressive than the 530 supported on the Wink Hub 2.
However, it’s still not a good idea to connect too many devices to your smart hub, as it can potentially slow it down.
Smart Home Integration – While both SmartThings and Wink Hub 2 support a huge range of compatible smart home products, there are a few exceptions.
For example, while the Nest thermostat is fully supported by Wink, it’s a little bit more complicated with SmartThings.
Additionally, other products such as SkyBell HD & Arlo Pro work really well with SmartThings, but won’t work with Wink.
App Interface – Wink comes out ahead with its innovative app interface, as is designed to be user-friendly and easy to set up as well.
While the SmartThings app isn’t so developed and doesn’t come with a ton of features and usability.
Design – The Wink smart hub is considerably larger with its t 7.25” x 7.25” 1.75” measurements, therefore making it harder to disguise.
While SmartThings Gen 3 sports a more compact size with dimensions of 5.0” x 5.0” x 1.2”.
