Philips Hue vs. Xiaomi Yeelight — What’s Different?
Fitting – Philips Hue has many more options when it comes to compatible sockets, such as E26, E12, BR30, GU10 & PAR16 fittings, while Xiaomi Yeelight is slightly more limited with its compatibility with dual E26 or E27 compatible socket setup.
Brightness – One small difference between the two models is the light output.
As you’ll notice a slightly stronger glow with Philips Hue, due to its 806 lumens vs. the Yeelight slightly lesser 800.
However, the difference is very small, as both brightness levels are quite similar.
Warranty – While both options come with an included warranty, Philips Hue provides you with an impressive 3 years, while Yellight is only limited to a 1-year warranty.
Technology & Connectivity – Philips Hue & Xiaomi Yellight both use a significantly different technology to operate.
Philips Hue lighting systems require a Philips Hue Bridge in order to function and connect via Zigbee technology, while Yellight communicates over WiFi, directly to your 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g/n compatible router.
Smart Home Integration – All of Philips Hue products integrate with Nest, Logitech, and Razer products, and Xiaomi offers compatibility with other Xiaomi products like the Mi Band or Misfit Bulbs.
This makes Philips Hue slightly more flexible when it comes to more mainstream brands such as the Logitech Harmony remote.
Geofencing – Philips Hue also supports the geofencing technology which allows the lights to turn off and on based on your location using your smartphone’s GPS signal.
Unfortunately, Yeelight doesn’t include this compatibility.
Microsoft Cortana – While both models offer compatibility with Alexa & Google Assistant, it’s important to note that Apple HomeKit is unique to Philips Hue, as is Microsoft Cortana.
Entertainment – When it comes to entertainment, both systems can easily sync up with your music for a fun light show experience.
However, with the Philips Entertainment function, you can also dynamically adjust your lighting to fit the mood of your favorite video game or movie.
Unfortunately, Xiaomi Yeelight lacks this feature.
