Insteon vs. Lutron — What’s Different?

Lutron

Reliability – Unfortunately during a few installation situations, there have been issues with Insteon hub.

Mainly because Insteon is using the electrical signal as a carrier wave, which can potentially cause malfunctioning.

While Lutron uses a different type of technology, Lutron Clear Connect, which doesn’t cause this.

Accessories – Lutron also comes with unique accessories such as the Pico remote control which essentially allows you to control your smart bridge with a remote, rather than just an app.

Additionally, there are two types of remotes you can choose from, the Pico Audio remote which lets you control any type of Sonos Speakers to skip or pause a track.

You can also get a similar remote that’s designed for smart lights as well.

While Insteon is only compatible with Mini remote control addition.

Compatibility – Lutron also offers integrations with a large number of products such as remote-controlled shades (Serena), wireless thermostats (Honeywell, Ecobee, Nest), and other technology such as the Nest Cam, IFTTT, Apple Watch and many more.

While Insteon is only compatible with a select line of Insteon products. Although, it does also support Nest Learning Thermostat and Amazon Alexa & Google Assistant for voice control.

Apps – Both devices come with their own app that can be operated via your smart device.

Luckily, both Lutron smart bridge pro and Insteon are compatible with both iOS and Android devices.

Size – Lutron Smart Bridge comes with more compact dimensions of 2.8 x 2.8 x 1.2 inches., while Insteon is slightly bulkier measuring at 3.7 x 3.7 x 1.5 inches.
