eero vs. Ubiquiti AmpliFi HD — What’s Different?

Amplifi HD

Alexa Support – Since eero is compatible with Alexa, you can easily use voice commands along with an Echo device for control over your wireless network.

Unfortunately, Ubiquiti lacks this addition.

Units & Range – In terms of the units & range, eero uses a mesh network in order to span your entire home.

So basically you could have an eero and a single beacon which will generally cover 1-2 bedrooms or up to 2000 square feet. While one eero and two beacons are perfect for 2-4 bedrooms ranging up to 3000 square feet.

You can continue adding eeros and beacons to continue expanding your network as you please.

Whereas Ubiquiti AmpliFi comes with an impressive 20,000ft. Coverage from a single base!

Subscription – With eero, you also have the advantage of opting for the eeroPlus subscription plan as well.

And it comes with a number of useful features such as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware software, 1Password, Encrypt.me VPN protection, Threat scan, Family-Safe browsing & Intrusive ads.

While AmpliFi offers no such feature.

Performance – In terms of performance, Amplifi boasts faster speeds with its 450Mbps on 2.4GHz and 1300Mbps on 5GHz, which seems to be faster than eero.

However, while eero might not be as fast, it does come out ahead in terms of reliability and flexibility.

AmpliFi Teleport – Amplifi Teleport is a very unique feature that is included with Ubiquiti AmpliFi.

This essentially allows you to create a secure virtual private network on the router, therefore, letting you use your home internet connection and access all of your devices, as well as rt allowing you to use your home network while you’re away from home, a feature that eero lacks.

Nightlight – eero’s Beacons also have a nightlight function that can illuminate dark areas adding some extra utility to your Beacon.

AmpliFi doesn’t come with a nightlight function available.

Wireless Connectivity – The eero router comes out ahead with its Tri-band radios, and 2.4GHz, 5.2GHz, and 5.8GHz wireless frequencies giving the devices more choices when they connect to the network, thus leading to lower congestion and higher speeds.

And paired up with the beamforming and 2×2 MU-MIMO, you can expect better reliability with eero.

AmpliFi uses Dual-band WiFi with simultaneous 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless frequencies.

Smart LCD Screen – AmpliFi also includes a small LCD screen display where you can keep an eye on your network, rather than just using the app.

Eero doesn’t include this function.

Wired Connectivity – When it comes to wired connectivity, eero includes a dual auto-sensing Gigabit port for WAN and/or LAN connectivity, as well as a USB-C port for the AC power adapter on the eero gateway.

However, AmpliFi takes the edge here with its four gigabit LAN ports, one gigabit WAN port, and a USB-C port for the AC power adapter, paired with a USB 2.0 port on the AmpliFi Mesh router.

Design – In terms of size, AmpliFi measures at 3.9 x 3.9 x 3.9 inches, with a modern design suiting most decors.

While its MeshPnt is slightly bulkier and required mounting with its dimensions of 2.13 x 2.27 x 9.6’’.

While eero’s base features 4.76 x 4.76 x 1.26’’ size, with a smaller beacon that can be plugged in, with dimensions of 4.76 x 2.91 x 1.18’’.
